I’d like to offer an alternative perspective to Oldbeatnik’s Field Report on the Art Cinema in Hartford.   I’m a semi-frequent “patron of the Art,” visiting once or twice a month.  As a middle aged bloke living in Central Massachusetts, I have fond memories of the Paris Cinema, and New Art Cinema in Worcester.  The City of Worcester shut both of them down in the winter of 2005 after a series of well-publicized police raids.  I drive by the dilapidated marque and shuttered edifice of the Paris every day.  It’s a sad relic of by-gone era.

Boston’s Combat Zone is long gone as are almost all other adult theaters in New England.  Only two remain, the Art Cinema in Hartford, Conn. and the Fairmount in East Haven, Conn.  Despite living an a densely populated region, I must drive 90 miles each way to partake of “this thing of ours.”  I don’t get down to Hartford nearly as often as I’d like to.

After seeing your request for reports, I have decided to relay a very recent,but not so good report at Cinema 309 in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Was a Friday night, April 29th .Dropped my trailer at the truck stop, then went and found the theater. I had never been there,and have wanted to pay a visit. Anyway, after realizing I did not have to drop my trailer, I discovered that the lot is quite large. I go in and take a look around... Small as far as book stores go, not a lot of retail spce, but they make good use of it.

I pay the admissinon fee, (think it is 10 bucks) and go in. Wow, nice large seating area with lots of room between the rows. Isle play is encouraged. Large up to date viewing creen, with the equipment to match. But alas, no couples, only old gay men (and only two of those were actually playing). Also,they close at 10 or 10:30pm if the movie is still playing. I asked the clerk about this, and he stated the owner does not feel that buisiness would pick up later that than that. Hmmmmmmm, did not try to argue with him. Now, I have read reports that couples do go in here, but it seems it is hit and miss, much like many of our fun venues.

The Art Cinema Theater 255 Franklin Ave Hartford Ct is an old regular theater converted to porn. It is located on a fairly busy street in a 80% residential neighborhood. There is no parking lot so street parking it is.

The theater is huge, at least 300 seats on the ground floor and 100 in the balcony which is for couples only. It has a huge screen and shows really boring porn movies that the management changes twice a week. The balcony rows are very close to each other and the seats are extremely uncomfortable. It is not possible to eat anyone out by kneeling on the floor, there is no room. There are arm rests so leaning over would be rather uncomfortable too. The lower theater is better for action but unless it is a theater savvy couple the penis gallery would make any one uncomfortable. The bathroom works and doesn't smell which speaks well but the place itself is run down and needs repair.

Needless to say there was no couples action the 2 hours I was there. I know that's not much time but the movies were so boring I just couldn't stay any longer. The theater may get couple action but I don't know why. They would have to walk down a residential street(with kids and families) to enter a seedy joint. It costs $20 for couples (another disincentive, why aren't women free?) Single men is $10. It's not a theater I would recommend.  Oldbeatnik

Here is my report from my business trip out to Las Vegas last month:

I recently attended a businss conference out in Las Vegas that ran Monday - Wednesday but they had some pre-conference activities (golf, shows, etc.) that gave me a good excuse to fly out there Saturday morning. I was staying at Paris Hotel which is a great location for a couple of reasons.  First, it is is the middle of the strip so the other major hotel are a close walk by. But back to the story, I had visited the Deja Vu Theatre on 3275 Industrial Road (west end of the strip by Trump Hotel) on a previous visit and while didn't have any luck from this thing we all enjoy, I was impressed by the layout and cleanliness of the theatres - especially compared to some of the other LV theatres - and wanted to give it a try on future visits. 

The DejaVu Love Boutique facility is just north of the Erotic History Museum which would be worthy of a visit on a future trip but I didn't have time.  It is an adult complex that consists of the theatres (3 of them), arcade, exceptionally large retail store selling everything type of adult merchandise imaginable and a showgirls bar.  No admission fee for the retail store, $10 for the theatre and I am sure the arcade is one where you feed the bills.  From my previous visit, I learned that in the evening you can avoid the valet parking (primarily for the showgirls bar) by driving around the back of the building to a well-lit parking lot with an entrance to the retail store. 

A little description of the theatres might also be helpful.  As you walk down the hallway after being buzzed in, there are two openings on your left.  The first one is a small (25 person) theatre showing straight porn on two different flat screens.  The second opening is to the gay theatre which is of similar size and also has two large flat screens.  All of the seating in the theatres are large plush lounge chairs with movable arm rests between most of the seats.  The third theatre is at the end of the hallway and you enter through another door (providing a bit more privacy) at the back of the theatre.  This is a much larger theatre that has 4 flat screens on the front wall showing the same 2 m/f movies showing in the straight theatre as well as a couple of specialized porn (fetish, etc.).  I am guessing this theatre will hold at least 50 people. Same comfortable lounge chairs and some of them are like Lazy-boys and actually recline.

Arrived about 9 pm on a Saturday night.  There were only about 5 cars parked in the back so was afraid that this would be a slow night as I had experienced in the past.  For some reason, this place just has not seemed to have caught on with either the locals or tourists.  On my previous visit last Spring, I visited 3 evenings (all week nights) and there were less than 3-4 people there during the evening and only one couple.  But always the optimist, was hoping a weekend night might prove more beneficial.  I glanced in the straight theatre and there was 1 guy there sitting in the second of three rows.  Looking in the gay theatre, there were 3-4 guys, but all were seated separate from each other.  I went into the big theatre and selected a seat in the middle and I was the only one there.  Over the next hour, several single guys came in for a bit but then left.  I was afraid that I was going to strike out again, but about 10:15 I heard the door open and in came a couple.  They stood at the back of the theatre for a bit and I knew right away they were players as he was standing behind her and would move his hands from her waist up to cup her breasts and sometimes insert one of his hands inside her blouse.  It was hard to tell for sure, but looked like she had her hands behind her rubbing his crotch.   While they were standing there, a couple of guys came in and sat down in the theatre in the rows behind me.  The couple came down and sat down in the row in front of me and to my left.  Although the theatre is dark, they appeared to be in their mid-to-late 30s.  She was slender, but not petite, brunette with dark hair cut short like Demi Moore.  She was wearing a light blue blouse and a navy blue / denim(?) pleated skirt.  He was a tall, lanky fellow with a short beard and mustache and looked like a cowboy in his blue jeans and white shirt.

This put it about 11:15. I moved to the straight theatre where I could see anyone walking down the hall and entering the adult theatre.  I stayed there until 12:30 but no other couples came so then I left.  I visited Deja Vu again on Sunday and Tuesday evenings but no luck.

Thanks again to JaxBchBum for another one of his exemplary field reports.  His report is very indicative of every time I have visited an adult theater in Vegas: the action is few and far between, and I have yet to see a situation where there are more than one couple inside a theater. Breaking News! Trouble at Love Stuff in Cordele, GA

Love Stuff Raided

Cordele —  On Thursday May 5, 2011, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office along with the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant on the business “Love Stuff” located at 105 Floyd Road Cordele, Georgia.

 The search warrant was the result of an investigation that was initiated back in April 2011 when Sheriff Donnie Haralson had received information from a confidential source that illegal sexual acts were being conducted inside the business.

 During the investigation undercover agents were sent inside to purchase illegal items that were being sold from the business and to witness any illegal acts that were being performed on various occasions.
 On the day the search warrant was served undercover agents were sent inside and while they were in a video viewing room that was playing pornography one undercover agent was sexually solicited by a patron of the business. The patron was then arrested and the search warrant was served. While deputies and task force agents were securing the business a second individual was found inside a video booth and was arrested for public indecency.

 During the service of the search warrant multiple illegal sexual items were seized and four individuals were arrested. (ed. note: I have edited out the names of the individuals that were arrested, both employees of Love Stuff and the patrons).
