As some of you know, Summit Street News in Warren, OH had to close their theaters a few weeks ago. There were (and still are) rumors floating around as to why they closed, and the future of the theaters at this terrific facility.
I reached out to Eric from Summit Street News, as I have worked with him previously on several past reports. He is a stand up guy, and I knew I could get the straight story from him.
Eric has given me permission to publish his e-mail back to me, verbatim.
Here we go...

Summit Street News sustained electrical damage while cleaning stored items out of the warehouse. It was originally hoped it would be a quick and easy fix. We've been telling people it's purely electrical because that's what we thought at the time, and it's also the shortest/easiest answer.
When we went to pull the required permits to correct the problems, it was discovered the previous work was not only never approved by the city as required, but some things were not up to code as well. They city will not approve our occupancy for the areas until all of the issues are fixed and satisfied. There has been no fighting from the city on anything, but it is a slow process getting everything run through the bureaucratic system properly.
We now have hired an architect to submit all of the proper drawings, lined up legit, licensed contractors for the work, etc. and will have the city approve and inspect all work before the areas will be approved for occupancy. We will be opening back up, but it is going to take several weeks since we can't start doing one drop of work until we get our drawings approved first.

Doc here again... Thanks Eric for the update on Summit Street News. I will keep Journal readers abreast of the progress of the project, and when we can anticipate the theaters reopening at Summit Street News.
Thanks,
