Here is a field report on the Waverly Adult Books and Video Store/Theater in Waverly Va.

The book store/theater in Waverly Va is a small out of the way place that gets it's share of couples action. It is a 45 minute drive from Petersburg and up to 3 hours from any big city. So if you go there it is for a purpose.

It is open from 8 am to 1 am seven days a week year around, with a half day on Xmas. It costs $15 for men, women and couples are always free. Your money gets you free booths and access to the theater. You can leave and return 3 times throughout the day without having to repay. There are 20 some booths, most with gloryholes and one with a small couch. I was told a couple uses that one frequently and bring their own blanket because there is a broken spring in the couch. The booths looked to be in good shape and didn't have that cummed in smell. There is one bathroom that was clean and well tended.

The theater has 5 long comfortable couches that can seat up to 8 people in close quarters. There is one love seat against the wall near the screen. The only light comes from the screen so it is quite dark. The screen is about 8 feet by 4 feet showing DVD's  with good clarity. There was a small contingent of men there and it didn't seem to have a lot of the usual gay cruisers. There is one aisle as you enter with the couches in rows to your right.  There is no dedicated couples section.

Only one couple came into the theater the Saturday night I was there but they made my trip worthwhile. He was a 40ish biker looking gent she was a 40 something tall thin very good looking blonde wearing a tight little black dress.

I entered the theater the same time they did hoping to sit somewhere so I could watch. They stopped short and leaned up against the wall so I had to walk by them. A Few Minutes With Dr. Emilio: 15th Avenue Adult Books and Theater

Doc here to share a few minutes with you to discuss the 15th Avenue Adult Books and Theater in Melrose Park, IL (a western burb of Chicago).

After a period decidedly quieter than the first 2 1/2 years of operation, word reaching The Good Doctor's office (in The Valley near the small women's college) is that traffic is picking up, and couples are starting to re-engage this adult theater (and adjoining spa).

This came to a grinding halt in June of 2008, when Tampa officials allocated funding for a crack down of the theaters in Drew Park.  Arrests followed, and thus the aforementioned wet towel was thrown over these businesses.  Ownership even changed at Fantasyland during this period.

Let's fast-forward to today.  Senior field reporter EJ submitted an excellent field report from Tampa, which was one of the first reports in many months discussing the Tampa scene.  I am very encouraged by what I am hearing from Tampa, and hopefully one day soon I will be able to make a few "House Calls" to the theaters in Drew Park.

This story about Tampa is mirrored to a degree by the 15th Avenue Adult Books & Theater.  Success, followed by LE intervention and disruption, and now hopefully positive steps back.  Sure, there have been some changes to the theater (still one of the best layouts in the country), and the place is kept super clean.  The biggest changes came to the arcade section, where doors were removed and half-dividers put up in their place.

Our good friend (and Canada's Greatest Natural Resource) Velvet Skye, spent 3 days at various times at 15th Avenue entertaining the troops.  There are regular couples announcing trips there via CL or Yahoo.  These are all positive things, and we here at The Journal hope that it continues.

Hi Doc,

The CVE in Gastonia, NC is a great place to watch couples play if any come in. It costs $15 per man, women are always free. It is open 10 to midnight weekdays, 10 til 2 am Fri and Sat, 12 to 12 on Sun. It has about 50 theater seats off one main aisle with no couples only section. It is very clean and is well lit so there is no problem watching the theater action. The seats are relatively comfortable and there is lots of room between rows There are 20-25 peepbooths, most with glory holes. There is also a smokers room and a small lounge area with a 3-4 person couch and a 2-3 person couch, both very comfortable. There is a TV that shows a different movie than in the theater. Both show very boring hetro porn. The lounge is better to sit in if you want to wait for couples who don't go into the theater but go to the booths.

The Saturday night I was there 3 couples came in which none of whom played. One of them might have played in the booths but I am more interested in theaters so I did not follow them out with the crowd when they left the theater. They stood in the doorway when they first showed up. They came back into the theater about an hour later so they either left and came back or spent their time in the booths. They were surrounded by men when they came back in, sat for maybe 5 minutes and left never to return. When will the gawkers ever learn? The mens john was clean and didn't smell which speaks well of the management. I assume the womens room was the same.

All in all I highly reccommend the CVE, and couples, if you can stand/deal with the perv crowd surrounding you and are highly exhibitionist, (because of the lighting) you will have a great time. Straight men may have a hard time with all the gays, they are a real pain with their constant cruising. (I could say pain in the ass, but that goes without saying).

Doc here again... Very interesting report indeed. Just like many adult theaters where the local authorities flex their muscles, the reponse is to low-key it for a bit until the storm passes.  Hopefully this is the case at CVE.
